The Company: Auto-Ordnance Corporation

The original company was founded in 1916 by Colonel John Thompson, who set forth by the 1920s to develop and market the Thompson submachine gun with the actual manufacturing being done by other firms. The patents and rights have passed through several hands since then, and the present Auto-Ordnance brand has no direct connection with the original other than to promote a semi-automatic version of the Thompson. The manufacturer of both semi-automatic rifles and pistols, the company became a division of Kahr Arms in 1999.
