About the Gun

First introduced in 2002, the Bersa Thunder 45 is still in production, and is marketed in the United States as the 'Thunder 45 Ultra Compact'. The first production runs of Thunder Ultra Compact 45 pistols in the U.S. produced reliability problems for users, stemming from a somewhat-anemic recoil spring. The issue has since been resolved, and replacement springs are readily available from official distributors.

Production

Production of this firearm began in the early 2000s, specifically around 2002, as part of a line designed for compact carry. It has been manufactured consistently since then, with ongoing availability through the present day, primarily produced in Argentina.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a dependable full-size handgun. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at typical defensive ranges, while the ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well under various conditions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, as disassembly and cleaning require attention to detail. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge, potentially frustrating owners needing quick repairs. The trigger pull is smooth with a moderate weight, providing a predictable break that suits both novice and experienced users. Felt recoil is noticeable, as expected in this caliber, though the well-balanced frame helps mitigate harshness. Overall, it’s a capable choice, provided users are prepared for its upkeep demands.
