About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Production

Production of this model with the specified features began in 2010 and continued through 2015. It was primarily manufactured during this period to meet demand for enhanced tactical capabilities, with limited runs in subsequent years based on special orders.

Analysis

This 9mm tactical pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a full-sized duty firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering tight groupings at moderate ranges thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, providing a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance across various ammunition types and conditions, making it a trusted choice for critical use. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though some may find the transition to single-action slightly less crisp. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users with proper technique. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat involved, requiring attention to detail for thorough cleaning. Additionally, sourcing certain replacement parts may pose challenges, and the weight could be a drawback for those prioritizing concealability or lighter carry options.
