About the Gun

SD Series striker fired polymer frame pistols evolved from Smith & Wesson's earlier Sigma pistol designs. They are meant to fall between the company’s Sigma and M&P lines, both in terms of features and price. The first generation models came with a Melonite finish slide and a tritium night front sight. The second generation models come with a stainless steel slide and standard combat 3 dot sights. Features include deeply defined front and rear serrations on the slide and an ergonomic grip with textured grip panels.

Analysis

This .40 caliber polymer-framed pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at moderate ranges, while the ergonomic grip design accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing comfort during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well under diverse conditions, making it suitable for both range and defensive purposes. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of disassembly for thorough cleaning, which may frustrate less experienced users. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can pose challenges, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp but on the heavier side, which might affect precision for some shooters. Felt recoil is noticeable, as expected in this caliber, though the frame helps mitigate it to a reasonable degree for most users.
