AREX Defense was developed over 20 years ago from the tool department of the former Iskra company. The company was tool-making oriented at first, but later started gravitating more and more from manufacturing unique products towards mass production of its own tools. REX Zero 1 is the first pistol that is in-house designed as well as manufactured, beginning in 2016. But, the company has been developing and making firearms parts since 2005. Beginning in 2020 the company dropped the Rex brand name for its pistols and began using its company name, AREX.
