About the Gun

Archon positions the Type D as their "compact" offering via its sleeker straight-line slide profile while retaining every hallmark of the AF-Speedlock family: non-tilting barrel, sub-0.5-inch bore axis, and straight-back recoil impulse. Built on the same modular Gen 2 grip platform with swappable backstraps and side panels, it features a sleeker straight-line slide with aggressive serrations, optics-ready RMR/ACRO cut, and a high beavertail frame. Available in standard or threaded-barrel configurations, the Type D blends duty-grade performance into a concealment-friendly package that directly challenges the SIG P320 X-Compact and Glock 19.

Analysis

Despite its compact footprint, the Type D shoots like a full-size pistol. The ultra-low bore axis and Speedlock system tame muzzle flip so effectively that most shooters record 0.16–0.19-second splits and sub-2.5-inch groups at 25 yards with 124-grain duty loads—numbers that embarrass many micro-9s. The crisp 5–5.5 lb flat trigger and perfect grip-angle consistency make transitions lightning-fast. Recoil feels soft and linear, ideal for appendix carry without the wrist-snapping punishment of smaller guns. Minor grip texture can still abrade during marathon sessions, but overall the Type D is one of the fastest, most controllable compact strikers on the market.
