About the Gun

Armscor's TCM series of pistols are functionally a 1911 series-70 pistol design but chambered for their unique .22 TCM cartridge. Since the .22 TCM is essentially a stepped-down 9mm cartridge, the gun can fire 9mm rounds from the same magazine by simply replacing the barrel and recoil spring. Armscor ships both .22 TCM and 9mm barrels and springs with each TCM pistol. The TCM series includes both single-stack 10-round models and double-stack 17-round models.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 2013 and continues to the present day. It is manufactured by Armscor-Rock Island Armory, with assembly primarily taking place in the Philippines under strict quality control standards.

Analysis

This pistol in .22 TCM caliber offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a high-velocity round in a semi-auto platform. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering tight groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and chamber. Ergonomically, the grip fits comfortably in most hands, with intuitive controls that enhance usability during extended sessions. Reliability is generally solid, with consistent feeding and ejection under varied conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds, which aids precision, while the felt recoil is surprisingly mild for such a potent cartridge, making follow-up shots manageable. On the downside, maintenance can be cumbersome due to the unique cartridge, requiring diligent cleaning to prevent buildup. Parts availability remains a challenge, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, shooters unfamiliar with high-pressure rounds may find the learning curve steep. Overall, it’s a specialized choice with distinct advantages and limitations.
