About the Gun

The Beretta 92 pistol evolved from earlier Beretta designs, most notably the M1922 and M1951. From the M1922 comes the open slide design, while the alloy frame and locking block barrel were first used in the M1951. The grip angle and the front sight integrated with the slide were also common to earlier Beretta pistols. The Beretta 92 first appeared in 1975 and was designed by Carlo Beretta, Giuseppe Mazzetti and Vittorio Valle, all experienced firearms designers on the Beretta design team.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a solid blend of performance and design for both novice and experienced shooters. Its accuracy is commendable, with a well-balanced frame that aids in consistent shot placement during range sessions. The ergonomics are thoughtfully crafted, providing a comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes, which enhances control during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions smoothly under various conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to prevent wear on critical components. Parts availability may also pose challenges, particularly for older variants, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5-6 pounds in single action, though some users might find the double-action pull heavier than preferred. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique.
