About the Gun

The Beretta 92 pistol evolved from earlier Beretta designs, most notably the M1922 and M1951. From the M1922 comes the open slide design, while the alloy frame and locking block barrel were first used in the M1951. The grip angle and the front sight integrated with the slide were also common to earlier Beretta pistols. The Beretta 92 first appeared in 1975 and was designed by Carlo Beretta, Giuseppe Mazzetti and Vittorio Valle, all experienced firearms designers on the Beretta design team.

Production

Production of this compact model began in 1989, continuing alongside its full-size counterpart. It was manufactured primarily through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, with limited runs in later years depending on market demand.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a solid combination of accuracy and ergonomics, making it a reliable choice for many shooters. Its design facilitates a natural grip, promoting consistent shot placement, while the overall balance aids in managing recoil, which feels moderate and controllable even during rapid fire. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it can feel somewhat heavy for some users, transitioning to a lighter, crisp single-action pull. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm performing well under varied conditions, provided regular maintenance is observed. However, upkeep can be somewhat demanding, as disassembly and cleaning require attention to detail. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges for some owners, depending on location. While it suits a broad range of users, those with smaller hands might find the grip slightly oversized, potentially affecting comfort during extended use.
