About the Gun

The Beretta 92 pistol evolved from earlier Beretta designs, most notably the M1922 and M1951. From the M1922 comes the open slide design, while the alloy frame and locking block barrel were first used in the M1951. The grip angle and the front sight integrated with the slide were also common to earlier Beretta pistols. The Beretta 92 first appeared in 1975 and was designed by Carlo Beretta, Giuseppe Mazzetti and Vittorio Valle, all experienced firearms designers on the Beretta design team.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling blend of precision and user-friendly design. Its accuracy is noteworthy, benefiting from a well-balanced frame and a crisp sight picture that aids in consistent shot placement. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, enhancing control during extended shooting sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with a proven track record of functioning under varied conditions with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, as disassembly and cleaning require attention to detail to avoid wear on components. Parts availability may pose a challenge for some users, particularly for specialized replacements. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it can feel slightly heavy for those accustomed to lighter pulls. Felt recoil is moderate, making it manageable for most shooters, though follow-up shots may require practice to master.
