Analysis

Beretta introduced the 96 in 1992 as the .40 S&W companion to the 92FS for U.S. police agencies leaving the revolver. The lockwork, open slide, and controls follow the FS pattern; the slide and recoil system were built for the higher-pressure cartridge. Standard commercial capacity on this row is the 11-round .40 tube. Regular catalog life ran through the mid-2000s. Later 96A1, Brigadier, and D-model guns sit on other pages. Used boxed examples sit at the top of the value range; agency turn-ins with holster wear sit lower.
