Analysis

The 98FS is the civilian 9×21 IMI version of the 92FS. Italian rules kept 9 mm Parabellum out of commercial hands, so Beretta chambered the same lock for the 9×21 case. The FS added the slide-retention device that also went on the 92FS. The cartridge is 9×21 IMI, not 9 mm. The Inox is the stainless companion, the same relationship as the 92FS Inox to the 92FS. Both remain in Italian production. In 2013 the Italian proof house confirmed the 98FS will also fire 9 mm, but the catalog chamber stays 9×21. Magazines interchange with the 92. Plastic panels are the usual missing piece.
