About the Gun

The M9 pistol, formally 'Pistol, Semiautomatic, 9mm, M9', is the pistol the United States military adopted in the 1980s to replace the M1911. It is essentially a military specification Beretta 92F, later the 92FS. The M9 has been modified as the M9A1, adding, among other things, a Picatinny rail for the attachment of lights, lasers, and other accessories to the weapon. The M9A1 also has more aggressive front and backstrap checkering, a beveled magazine well for easier reloading of the weapon, and a reversible magazine release.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a solid combination of features for both novice and experienced shooters. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully crafted, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended use. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions smoothly under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to ensure peak performance. Parts availability may pose challenges for some users, particularly for older components. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, which might not suit everyone, especially those preferring a lighter break. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though it could feel pronounced for those unaccustomed to full-sized handguns in this caliber.
