About the Gun

Subcompact polymer-frame, hammer-fired pistol with a double-stack magazine, interchangeable backstraps, and an integral accessory rail. It uses a conventional tilt-barrel lock and a rotating takedown pin. Type F has a slide-mounted ambidextrous safety/decock lever; Type G uses the same paddle as a spring-return decocker only. Type C Constant Action and Type D DAO drop the external lever and use a spurless hammer. Bruniton-coated steel slide over a fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame. Built as a concealed-carry and backup sidearm.

Analysis

Beretta introduced the Sub-Compact in 2008, after the full-size Storm and before the midsize Compact. U.S. deliveries began that June. It was designed and built at Accokeek rather than in Italy, in part because a gun this small sat under the old import-size line. The lock is a tilt barrel with a rotating takedown pin, closer to the earlier 9000S—the two even share a guide-rod pattern. Safety levers, trigger parts, and magazine-release buttons still swap with the bigger PX4 guns. The Sub-Compact can swallow Compact and full-size magazines; a sleeve was sold to fill the gap on a long mag. SnapGrip base plates lengthen the short grip. The 2008 launch listed 9 mm and .40 S&W in the same four lockworks used on the full-size Storm: Type F safety/decocker, Type G decocker only, Type C Constant Action, and Type D DAO. Type F was the usual commercial gun. C and D were the agency packs. Beretta confirmed the Sub-Compact was out of production in 2023. Used guns are common and generally cheaper than a Compact or full-size Storm. Complete examples with extra magazines and the SnapGrip plate are the ones that bring the top of the range.
