Analysis

Beretta launched the U22 Neos in 2002 as an Accokeek-made rimfire, not an Italian carry-over. The point was a cheap, tool-free modular trainer: barrel and rail come off as one piece, the slide lifts off, and the polymer grip module unbolts. That is why the 4.5, 6.0, and later 7.5 barrels, blued and Inox slides, and spare grip units all swap on the same receiver. A Deluxe trim with rubber grip inlays, an adjustable trigger, and colored sight blades followed in 2003 and was gone after 2007. A carbine kit that replaced the grip with a stock and the barrel with a forend appeared in 2004. In 2010 Beretta recalled early guns that could fire with the safety on or while the lever was being moved; Accokeek replaced the firing-pin parts. Standard 4.5 and 6.0 guns outlasted the Deluxe line. Used Neos pistols are common and inexpensive. Boxed examples with both magazines bring the top of the value range; loose guns without the case sit at the bottom.
