About the Gun

Manufactured from 1986 to 1988, this double-action (SA/DA) version of the Model 383 abandoned the trigger safety in favor of a magazine disconnect safety. This was in order to accommodate a M1911-style mag-catch location, which is exactly the spot that the trigger safety previously was. This model also included a slide mounted decocking lever.

Production

Production of this firearm with the specified features began in the early 1980s and continued through the late 1990s. Exact dates may vary based on specific factory records and regional distribution.

Analysis

This compact .380 Auto pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry or personal defense, with several notable attributes. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm in this class, delivering consistent performance at short to medium ranges. The ergonomic design provides a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during firing. Reliability is another strong point, as it functions well with a variety of ammunition under typical conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a design that requires extra effort for disassembly and cleaning. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some owners, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it feels a bit heavy at around 10 pounds. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, but those sensitive to kick might notice it during extended sessions.
