About the Gun

Compact aluminum-frame DAO hammer-fired 9 mm pistol with a reverse-feed magazine and rotating-barrel lockup. Cartridges are drawn rearward from the magazine as the slide cycles, which lets the barrel extend over the magazine well. This is the longer-barrel companion to the XR9-S, with an extended slide and a short accessory rail on the dust cover. The slide is stainless steel. Grips are black polymer. Sights are low-profile. The three variants differ only in finish: all-black Onyx, Two-Tone (black frame, satin stainless slide), and Platinum (nickel/chrome sheen).

Production

Production ran from 2013 through 2016.

Analysis

Boberg introduced the XR9-L in 2013 as the longer-barrel companion to the XR9-S. It kept the same reverse-feed and rotating-barrel system that allowed a longer barrel in a short overall package, and it was rated for +P. The longer slide also added a short accessory rail. Production under Boberg Arms was limited to the 2013–2016 window before Bond Arms acquired the company in late 2015 and ended the original line. Used XR9-L examples are scarce and trade as short-run American reverse-feed pistols. The later Bond Arms BullPup9 is a separate manufacturer’s 9 mm continuation of the shorter pattern.
