About the Gun

CZ developed a .40S&W pistol for Colt that had a 1911 profile grip, which Colt marketed as the Z40. There was a limited purchase of the Z40 pistol before Colt cancelled the contract. CZ continued to sell the remaining stock under its own brand called the model 40 B. The 40 B was produced until CZ exhausted its stock of 1911 style frames.

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is commendable, particularly at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system that aids in precise shot placement. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is consistent under standard conditions, with few reported malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be challenging, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds in single action, though some may find it slightly heavy in double action. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique, though it can feel sharp during rapid fire.
