About the Gun

Daewoo pistols use delayed blowback action instead of the relatively more common recoil action of most automatic pistols. Other pistols which use the delayed blowback include the H&K P-7 Series and the Vector CP-1. The pistols have a special Tri-Action trigger pull which provides the same trigger pull with the hammer down as most single action automatics. The general appearance is that of a SIG 226. The DP51 is designed primarily for military and police use. It is the standard sidearm of the South Korean armed forces. The DH40 is popular with South Korean Police.

Production

Production of this firearm began in the early 1990s and continued through the late 1990s. It was manufactured primarily during this period before being discontinued, with most units produced in South Korea under the original branding.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a reliable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both novice and experienced users. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip, aiding in control during extended shooting sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm performing well under varied conditions with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced owners. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be challenging, potentially limiting long-term usability. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds in single action, providing a predictable break. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though those sensitive to kick might find follow-up shots slightly delayed. Overall, it’s a practical choice with some logistical drawbacks.
