About the Gun

The FCP (Fast Cycling Pistol) uses a Tanfoglio polymer frame with some similar firing mechanism parts. The slide is fixed in place. The rear portion forms a standing breech and the forward part houses a fixed 4-inch barrel. The barrel has no chamber. A large port occupies the space between the standing breech and the rear of the barrel. A special 'tube chamber' containing a loaded cartridge can be inserted to fill this space, with additional loaded chambers in the magazine below. The FCP can only be fired double-action, as nothing reciprocates to cock the hammer. When the cartridge in the tube chamber is fired, some gas from that shot is diverted back to expel the spent cartridge and tube chamber.

Production

Production of this firearm began in the early 1990s and continued through various iterations until around 2015. Specific models with polymer components were primarily manufactured during the late 1990s to early 2000s, reflecting advancements in lightweight materials during that period.

Analysis

This 9mm polymer-framed pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a reliable carry or competition firearm. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with consistent grouping at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is solid, performing well under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds in single action, which aids precision, while the felt recoil is moderate and manageable for most users, even during rapid fire. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat involved, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Parts availability may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, some shooters might find the grip texture overly aggressive for prolonged use.
