About the Gun

The 'Universal Self-loading Pistol' was designed to incorporate many features that the military and law enforcement agencies deemed vital. It uses the Browning cam-breech-locking system. The USP has various safety options. The double-action (DA/SA) variants can have either a decocking lever or safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. The double-action only (DAO) variants can have a safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. DAO variants have a bobbed hammer.

Analysis

This stainless steel compact pistol in .40 S&W delivers commendable performance for its size, particularly in terms of accuracy and ergonomics. The design fits well in hand, offering a secure grip that aids in control during rapid fire, making it suitable for both concealed carry and range use. Reliability is a strong point, with consistent function across various ammunition types, even under less-than-ideal conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, as the stainless finish requires regular care to prevent corrosion in humid environments. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single-action mode, though some may find the double-action pull heavier than preferred. Felt recoil is noticeable but manageable, aligning with expectations for a compact firearm in this caliber.
