About the Gun

The 'Universal Self-loading Pistol' was designed to incorporate many features that the military and law enforcement agencies deemed vital. It uses the Browning cam-breech-locking system. The USP has various safety options. The double-action (DA/SA) variants can have either a decocking lever or safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. The double-action only (DAO) variants can have a safety-only lever on either the left or right side of the frame, or no safety lever at all. DAO variants have a bobbed hammer.

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for competitive shooters and enthusiasts seeking precision. Its accuracy is noteworthy, benefiting from a well-engineered barrel and tight tolerances that deliver consistent shot placement. Ergonomically, the design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes with adjustable grips, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with a robust build that handles high round counts under demanding conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single action, providing a predictable break. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, manageable with proper grip, though not the softest in its class. On the downside, maintenance can be intricate, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Parts availability may pose challenges, especially for custom components, and some users might find the weight cumbersome for carry applications.
