About the Gun

Part of Kahr's Premium Series, the steel frame K Series was the first series Kahr produced, starting in the 1990's. Features include a Lothar Walther 3.5” polygonal rifled match grade barrel, smooth DAO trigger, stainless or blackened stainless slide and an option for night sights. Kahr pistols are striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of the Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of the slide.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry or personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that fits comfortably in most hands, aiding control during rapid fire. Reliability is generally high, functioning well across various ammunition types with minimal malfunctions in testing. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, as disassembly requires careful attention to detail, which may frustrate less experienced users. Parts availability is another concern, as replacement components can be harder to source compared to more common models. The trigger pull is smooth but slightly heavy, averaging around 6-7 pounds, which might not suit everyone. Felt recoil is noticeable due to the lightweight frame, though it remains manageable with proper grip and stance.
