About the Gun

Part of Kahr's Premium Series, the MK Series is a high quality thin profile subcompact, pocket carry handgun model with a steel frame. Features include a Lothar Walther 3” polygonal rifled match grade barrel, DAO trigger, stainless or blackened stainless slide and an option for night sights. Kahr pistols are striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of the Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of the slide.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid choice for concealed carry or backup use, with several notable attributes. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at typical defensive ranges. The ergonomics are well-suited for smaller hands, with a grip that facilitates a secure hold despite the pistol’s diminutive frame. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions dependably with a variety of ammunition under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the tight tolerances and compact design, requiring more attention to detail during cleaning. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some owners. The trigger pull is crisp but on the heavier side, averaging around 6-7 pounds, which might not suit all shooters. Felt recoil is noticeable, as expected in a lightweight .40 caliber, potentially affecting follow-up shots for less experienced users.
