About the Gun

Part of Kahr's Premium Series, the MK Series is a high quality thin profile subcompact, pocket carry handgun model with a steel frame. Features include a Lothar Walther 3” polygonal rifled match grade barrel, DAO trigger, stainless or blackened stainless slide and an option for night sights. Kahr pistols are striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of the Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of the slide.

Production

Production of this firearm under the Elite 98 designation began in 1998 and continued through the early 2000s. Specific dates may vary based on serial numbers, but this model was primarily manufactured during that period.

Analysis

This 9mm compact pistol offers a compelling option for concealed carry and personal defense. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, it fits comfortably in most hands, with a grip that promotes a secure hold even during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions smoothly with a variety of ammunition types under diverse conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6 pounds, which aids in precise shot placement, though some may find it slightly heavy for extended sessions. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though smaller-framed individuals might notice it more. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate due to its compact design, requiring patience for thorough cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be challenging, potentially frustrating owners needing quick repairs.
