About the Gun

Part of Kahr's Premium Series, the PM Series is a high quality thin profile subcompact, pocket carry handgun model with a polymer frame. Features include a Lothar Walther polygonal rifled match grade barrel, DAO trigger, stainless or blackened stainless slide and an option for night sights. Kahr pistols are striker-fired locked-breech designs, relying on a modification of the Browning dropping-barrel system with a lug above the chamber locking the barrel into the roof of the slide.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry with its lightweight design and slim profile, making it easy to handle for most users. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at typical defensive ranges. The ergonomics cater well to smaller hands, though larger-handed shooters might find the grip slightly cramped. Reliability is generally strong, with few reported malfunctions under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat tedious due to the tight tolerances, requiring patience and attention. Parts availability may pose a challenge, as replacements are not always readily accessible. The trigger pull is crisp but on the heavier side, which could affect some shooters’ precision under stress. Felt recoil is noticeable given the caliber and light frame, potentially impacting follow-up shots for less experienced users. Overall, it’s a practical choice with manageable trade-offs.
