About the Gun

While advertised in 2013 and 2014, production of this Travis Tomasie designed pistol apparently got caught up in Para's buy-out by the Remington Outdoor Company (formally known as the Freedom Group) and subsequent factory relocation to Huntsville, Alabama in 2015. That was the same time Tomasie began representing Remington Arms and there is no indication that his custom Para branded 1911 model was ever actually produced. While the gun itself may not have made it to market, Para branded Tomasie slide and .40 caliber barrel kits can be found for sale on the after-market. In 2017 this same custom Tomasie designed pistol reappeared in the US market as the Remington 1911 R1 Tomasie Custom. That model can be found in our database under Remington.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed as a joint venture between Winchester and Smith & Wesson. It was an effort to to create a cartridge with the same power as the 10mm Norma round that the FBI had just started using, but in a shorter case. The shorter cartridge would facilitate accuracy and allow use of a smaller, more comfortable grip frame. The .40 S&W has become the cartridge of choice for many law enforcement agencies in the United States.
