About the Gun

In response to customer requests Rohrbaugh introduced a version of the R9 pistol incorporating Robar Custom’s advanced NP3 coating. NP3 is a surface treatment for steel and metal alloys that combines sub-micron particles of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) – otherwise known as Teflon – with electroless nickel. NP3 has a high lubricity and low friction co-efficient; the reduced friction wear greatly increases the life expectancy of the firearm.

Production

Production of this unique firearm began in 2004 and continued until around 2016. During this period, it was crafted with precision, appealing to enthusiasts seeking a compact, high-quality design. Manufacturing ceased as the company shifted focus to other projects.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers notable precision, with tight groupings achievable even at extended ranges, making it a solid choice for target shooting or defensive use. The ergonomic design fits comfortably in most hands, providing a secure grip that aids in control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, as it consistently cycles various types of ammunition without frequent malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be challenging, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which contributes to accuracy but might feel stiff for some shooters. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, manageable for most, though smaller-framed individuals could find it slightly sharp during extended sessions. Overall, it’s a capable option with some practical considerations.
