About the Gun

Ruger's first striker-fired pistol has a very slender profile and includes features such as a polymer frame with a Picatinny rail, a reversible backstrap (flat or arched) to accommodate grip preferences, an internal trigger bar interlock and striker blocker, trigger safety and magazine disconnect. The 'semi-double-action' trigger is more technically a single-action trigger, as it cannot cock the pistol on its own. In this aspect the trigger action is similar to the Glock, S&W M&P, and Springfield XD.

Production

Production of this firearm began in October 2007 and continued until it was discontinued in January 2019. During this period, various configurations were manufactured, meeting diverse user preferences until the model was phased out for newer designs.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of performance and comfort. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both defensive and recreational use. The ergonomic design fits well in a variety of hand sizes, with adjustable backstraps enhancing grip customization. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions smoothly across a wide range of ammunition types with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of disassembly for thorough cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges in some regions, potentially frustrating owners needing repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which aids in precision shooting, while the felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, though newer shooters might find it slightly sharp during extended sessions. Overall, it’s a capable choice with minor drawbacks.
