About the Gun

The Ruger LCR is a double-action-only revolver that incorporates many features found in the SP101, GP100 and Super Redhawk revolvers, as well as several new features. The patent pending polymer fire control housing incorporates the same grip extension design as the SP101, GP100, and Super Redhawk revolvers. The craned cylinder assembly of the LCR locks into the aluminum upper frame in the rear of the cylinder and at the front via the ejector extension. The internal parts are installed through the top of the fire control housing or through the bottom in back of the aluminum upper frame. Therefore, no side plate is needed.

Analysis

This 9mm revolver offers a compelling option for shooters seeking a compact, lightweight defensive firearm. Its accuracy is commendable for a snub-nose design, delivering consistent performance at typical self-defense ranges. The ergonomics are well-suited for most hand sizes, with a grip that aids in control during rapid fire. Reliability is a strong point, as the revolver functions smoothly with a variety of ammunition types, showing minimal failures in extensive testing. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of the internal mechanism, requiring more attention than some simpler designs. Parts availability may also pose challenges for repairs or customization. The trigger pull is notably smooth in double-action mode, though it requires a firm grip to manage. Felt recoil is moderate, sharper than expected for the caliber, but manageable with practice, making it a viable choice for many users.
