They also feature a smaller Ruger cushioned grip system with no exposed metal at the back strap for shooter comfort, the patented triple-locking cylinder mechanism that securely locks the cylinder into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom, and a stainless steel frame that has no weakening side plates. Ruger SP101 revolvers come in spurred and spurless hammer versions and take down easily with no special tools.

Analysis

This .22 LR revolver offers notable strengths for shooters seeking a compact, dependable firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at short to medium ranges, making it suitable for target practice or small game hunting. The ergonomics are well-designed, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, ensuring comfort during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions smoothly with minimal malfunctions under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring careful attention to keep it in optimal condition. Parts availability may pose a challenge, as replacements are not always readily accessible. The trigger pull is smooth but slightly heavy, which could affect precision for some users. Felt recoil is negligible, ideal for newer shooters or those sensitive to kick. Overall, it’s a solid choice, though potential buyers should weigh the upkeep demands against their needs.

Ruger SP 101 .22

Horrible trigger, single or double action. Spent shells jam in cylinder. Cost an additional $100 at gun shop to replace trigger springs and tune up a new gun. Expensive for a .22 revolver.
