About the Gun

Ruger SP101 revolvers are smaller framed guns chambered in various calibers from .22 LR up to the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge. They also feature a smaller Ruger cushioned grip system with no exposed metal at the back strap for shooter comfort, the patented triple-locking cylinder mechanism that securely locks the cylinder into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom, and a stainless steel frame that has no weakening side plates. Ruger SP101 revolvers come in spurred and spurless hammer versions and take down easily with no special tools.

Analysis

This compact revolver in .32 Magnum caliber offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of power and portability. Its accuracy is commendable, especially at close to medium ranges, making it suitable for self-defense or casual target shooting. The ergonomic design of the grip provides a comfortable hold, even during extended sessions, enhancing control. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance under various conditions, reflecting robust construction. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to ensure optimal function. Availability of replacement parts may pose a challenge, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is smooth but on the heavier side, which might not suit all users, particularly those accustomed to lighter actions. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most, though smaller-framed shooters may find it slightly more pronounced than expected. Overall, it’s a dependable choice with considerations for upkeep and user preference.
