This is SIG's own version of Browning's classic 1911 platform manufactured in Exeter, New Hampshire. Originally only produced with an integral accessory rail (as the term GSR implied), both standard and rail models are now offered.

Analysis

This pistol in the potent .357 caliber offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a blend of power and precision. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering tight groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, providing a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong suit, with consistent performance even under demanding conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring diligent attention to detail for optimal function. Availability of replacement parts may pose a challenge for some owners, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single action, which aids in precision shooting. Felt recoil, while manageable for experienced users, may be sharp for newer shooters due to the cartridge’s high velocity, necessitating proper technique to control follow-up shots.
