About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Production

Production of this firearm with the specified features began in 2005 and continued until around 2015. It was primarily manufactured during this decade, aligning with the demand for reliable duty weapons in that era.

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a duty-grade firearm. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance at various ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a significant strength, with a grip that accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, promoting comfort during extended use. Reliability is another key asset, as it functions smoothly even under adverse conditions, making it a trusted choice for professionals and enthusiasts alike. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous attention to keep it in optimal condition. Availability of replacement parts may pose a challenge in some regions, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull, while consistent, is on the heavier side, which might not suit all users. Additionally, the felt recoil in this caliber can be sharp, possibly affecting follow-up shots for less experienced shooters.
