About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance on target at various ranges, thanks to a well-balanced design and quality barrel. Ergonomically, the grip provides a natural fit for most hand sizes, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm functioning smoothly under diverse conditions, even with a range of ammunition types. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single-action mode, which aids in precise shot placement. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, ensuring follow-up shots remain steady. However, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for proper care. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges in certain regions. While suitable for many, those with smaller hands might find the frame slightly bulky.
