About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Production

Production of this firearm with the specified features began in 2008 and continued through 2015. It was primarily manufactured during this period, with limited runs in later years for special orders or specific markets.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol demonstrates notable strengths in accuracy and ergonomics, making it a solid choice for both novice and experienced shooters. Its design facilitates a natural grip, enhancing control during firing sequences, while the precision of its barrel contributes to consistent shot placement. Reliability is another key asset, with the firearm performing well under varied conditions, showing minimal malfunctions during extended use. The trigger pull is smooth and predictable, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single-action mode, which aids in maintaining accuracy. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, and does not significantly disrupt follow-up shots. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous attention to detail for optimal performance. Availability of replacement parts may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, some users might find the overall weight less ideal for concealed carry applications.

Reliable, accurate and good capacity
By Zelig on 13 Apr 2019
This model of the P226 has served me in service and as a civilian. I have fired more than 6000 rounds and the reliability is exceptional. Accuracy is excellent, having made kill shots on deer at 80 meters. Capacity of 21 makes it an excellent choice for home protection.
