About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Production

Production of this specific model with its unique features began in 2011. It was part of a specialized line introduced to cater to enthusiasts seeking premium enhancements. Manufacturing continued for several years, with availability often tied to limited runs through the mid-2010s.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and dependability. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering tight groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip provides a secure hold for a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance even under demanding conditions. The trigger pull is smooth and crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single-action mode, which aids in maintaining shot placement. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users with proper technique. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Availability of replacement parts may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, some shooters might find the weight a bit cumbersome for extended carry.
