About the Gun

Designed for the U.S. Army and carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG Sauer P226 is a full-sized service-type pistol chambered for the 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. Its design is based on the P220. Originally, the P226 slide was comprised of three different pieces of steel that were bent into shape using a mandrel. Beginning in 1996, production was shifted to CNC machining, and the slide was made from a single piece of stainless steel. This resulted in a stronger slide, which was necessary to chamber the more powerful .40 S&W and .357 SIG cartridges.

Production

Production of this specific model with unique features began in 2004 and continued through various limited runs until around 2015. Exact dates may vary based on specific configurations and market availability during those years.

Analysis

This particular .40 S&W pistol from a well-known manufacturer offers a compelling package for both competitive shooters and enthusiasts. Its accuracy is noteworthy, benefiting from a well-designed barrel and a crisp trigger pull that measures consistently around 4.5 pounds in single action, enhancing shot precision. The ergonomics are thoughtfully executed, with a grip that accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, promoting comfort during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, as it performs consistently even under demanding conditions. However, felt recoil is somewhat pronounced due to the potent caliber, which may challenge less experienced shooters. On the downside, maintenance can be intricate, requiring attention to detail for proper care. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose a challenge in some regions, potentially delaying repairs. Overall, it’s a capable firearm, though its suitability depends on the user’s skill level and needs.
