About the Gun

The P238 is built on an anodized alloy beavertail style frame with fluted grips for comfort and a secure hold during rapid-fire usage. The stainless steel slide features the popular Sig Sauer slide serrations and improves overall performance and accuracy. Additionally, the contrast or Siglite night sights are removable and adjustable for windage. The sear and trigger return spring are redesigned to prevent spring over-ride of the ejector during assembly.

Analysis

This compact .380 Auto pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry due to its lightweight design and ergonomic grip, which fits comfortably in most hands. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at close to moderate ranges. Reliability is a strong point, with minimal malfunctions reported under standard conditions when properly maintained. The trigger pull is crisp and predictable, averaging around 7-8 pounds in single-action mode, making it manageable for most shooters. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, though it may feel snappy to newer users due to the small frame. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Parts availability may pose a challenge in some regions, potentially delaying repairs. Overall, it’s a practical choice for those prioritizing portability, though it demands regular upkeep.

Excellent Pistol
By ToninCA on 16 Dec 2020
I have the P238 in both all steel and aluminum frame. They are excellent guns and very reliable if you keep htem reasonably clean. These pistols are easy to shoot and very accurate. Fit the hand well, especially with 7 round magazine. My favorite pistol!

Great tiny gun
By leejinks on 01 Feb 2018
As the smallest gun I own, it gets carried more than any other. I have a pocket holster for it that makes it easy to carry anytime I am wearing pants or shorts... I'll let your mind wander there. For a sub-compact, it shoots very well. It seems like this is a popular gun because I now see it in many different color variations, but I like my simple black. The slide is easy to rack and it's an easy gun to control. The breakdown is straightforward. And all the controls ware where you would expect them to be. I really can't think of anything bad to say about this gun.

Best pocket pistol
By Billy Bob Jo on 16 Dec 2017
Hands down the best pocket pistol. I bought the P238 Sport 12 for $449. Came with hogue grips, 7+1 magazine with finger grip, night sites/triglow. Recoil is minimal compared to other pocket pistols. With the proper iwb holster, it's the perfect pocket pistol. Feels great in the hand with hogue grips and I'm 6'3" 220lbs. Have run 400+ rounds through it without a hiccup. Don't hesitate to buy one, just don't buy the other junk like Kimber or Ruger LCP. The P238 is in a separate class than those; Cadillac vs SMART car.
