About the Gun

The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off-duty concealed carry. Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine. While P228 has a double-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber). The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling.

Analysis

This compact firearm in 357 SIG caliber offers notable precision, delivering consistent accuracy at typical defensive ranges due to its well-engineered barrel and sight alignment. The ergonomics are thoughtfully designed, providing a comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes, which enhances control during rapid fire. Reliability is a strong point, with the pistol functioning smoothly under various conditions, even with extended use. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous attention to keep it in optimal condition. Availability of replacement parts may pose a challenge, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The double-action-only trigger pull is smooth but heavier than some might prefer, averaging around 6.5 pounds, which could affect speed for less experienced shooters. Additionally, the felt recoil is sharp due to the potent caliber, potentially causing discomfort for those unaccustomed to higher-powered rounds.
