About the Gun

The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off-duty concealed carry. Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine. While P228 has a double-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber). The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid blend of performance and design for concealed carry or duty use. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, while the ergonomic grip ensures a secure hold, even during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well across various conditions and ammunition types. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6.5 pounds in double-action mode, providing a predictable break that aids in shot placement. However, felt recoil in this caliber can be sharp, potentially challenging for shooters with less experience or smaller hands. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate due to the design, requiring attention to detail during cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose difficulties in certain regions, which could frustrate users needing quick repairs. Overall, it’s a capable option with considerations for specific shooter needs.
