About the Gun

The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off-duty concealed carry. Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine. While P228 has a double-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber). The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling.

Analysis

This compact 9mm pistol offers a solid blend of performance and practicality for concealed carry or personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during operation. Reliability is another asset, as it functions smoothly with a variety of ammunition under diverse conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort than some comparable models to disassemble and clean. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6.5 pounds in double action, while the felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique, though follow-up shots may require slight adjustment for newer users.
