About the Gun

The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off-duty concealed carry. Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine. While P228 has a double-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber). The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling.

Analysis

This compact semi-automatic in 357 SIG offers a compelling balance of performance and concealability for those seeking a powerful carry option. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with a consistent ability to deliver tight groupings at moderate ranges, aided by a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully executed, providing a comfortable grip for a variety of hand sizes, which enhances control during rapid fire. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm functioning smoothly under diverse conditions, even with extended use. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous care to ensure longevity. Parts availability may pose challenges for some users, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds in double-action, though some may find it slightly heavy. Felt recoil is significant due to the potent caliber, which could be a consideration for shooters sensitive to kickback.
