About the Gun

The P239 is a compact, single-stack, double-action/single-action pistol available in three calibers. It features a stainless steel slide over an aluminum alloy frame and follows SIG’s traditional DA/SA operating system with a decock lever. The Nitron models have a black finish, while the Two-Tone versions feature a natural stainless slide with a black frame. The Rainbow Titanium variant adds a distinctive multi-colored finish on the .40 S&W model.

Analysis

SIG developed the P239 in the mid-1990s in response to demand from law enforcement and federal agencies for a slim, single-stack compact pistol suitable for backup or off-duty carry. It was positioned as a more concealable alternative to full-size service pistols while still offering the handling and reliability characteristics associated with SIG’s larger models. The platform remained in production for over two decades with relatively few changes, primarily offered in Nitron and Two-Tone finishes across its three calibers. The later addition of the Rainbow Titanium finish on the .40 S&W model represented a cosmetic option rather than a mechanical change. The P239 was eventually discontinued in 2018 as SIG shifted focus toward newer compact designs.
