About the Gun

The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off-duty concealed carry. Technically it is similar to P228 compact gun, and differs only in size and magazine. While P228 has a double-stack magazine for 12 rounds, P239 has a single-stack magazines for 7 or 8 rounds (depending on caliber). The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid blend of performance and practicality for both concealed carry and duty use. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, while the ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes, aiding in control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well under varied conditions and with different ammunition types. However, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for proper care, and parts availability may pose challenges for some users depending on location. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6.5 pounds in double-action mode, though it may feel heavy for those accustomed to lighter pulls. Felt recoil is noticeable due to the .40 caliber in a smaller frame, potentially affecting shooters sensitive to sharper kick, but it remains manageable with practice.

Compact version of the P228, DA/SA 40 caliber. Great for deep cover or back up. I find it highly accurate, extremely reliable and with a barrel swap fires the Sig 357 with same magazines. Very effective calibers in an excellent design. I rely on it for EDC.
