About the Gun

The P938 is a micro-compact, single-action-only, locked-breech 9mm pistol with an aluminum-alloy frame and stainless-steel slide. It uses 1911-style controls, including a single-action trigger and ambidextrous manual safety. SIG offered the model in a wide range of cosmetic packages that differed primarily in slide and frame finish and grip material (examples include Nitron, two-tone Equinox, Nightmare, Spartan II, rosewood and blackwood panels, and various textured or themed grips).

Analysis

SIG introduced the P938 as the 9mm counterpart to the earlier P238 .380, bringing a metal-frame, single-action micro-compact into the then-dominant pocket-9mm category. The 1911-style manual of arms and all-metal construction differentiated it from the polymer striker-fired competition. Over its production run SIG released numerous finish and grip variants that shared the same core design. As the polymer P365 series rose to dominate the concealed-carry market, most of the standard P938 configurations were gradually discontinued, leaving the platform largely as a legacy metal-frame micro-compact.
