About the Gun

Springfield's Croatian made XDM pistol is not intended to be a replacement for the company's XD series. Moreover it represents a high-end option alternative to the XD. This is seen in features such as its precision machined match-grade barrel and extremely short trigger travel and reset. The polymer grip has interchangeable palm swells and holds higher capacity magazines than the XD series. Features still common between the XD and XDM series are the loaded chamber indicator, the cocked status indicator and the 1911 style grip safety.

Analysis

This 9mm competition pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and performance. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering tight groupings at various ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip contours adapt to a wide range of hand sizes, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with consistent cycling even under demanding conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, providing a predictable break that aids in shot placement. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, though follow-up shots remain quick and controlled. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Parts availability may pose challenges for some, as certain components are less common. Additionally, shooters with smaller hands might find the grip slightly bulky, potentially affecting comfort over time.
