About the Gun

Springfield's Croatian made XDM pistol is not intended to be a replacement for the company's XD series. Moreover it represents a high-end option alternative to the XD. This is seen in features such as its precision machined match-grade barrel and extremely short trigger travel and reset. The polymer grip has interchangeable palm swells and holds higher capacity magazines than the XD series. Features still common between the XD and XDM series are the loaded chamber indicator, the cocked status indicator and the 1911 style grip safety.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 2007, with the specific configuration featuring a green polymer frame and black slide finish introduced around 2011. Manufacturing continues today, with various updates and enhancements made over the years to improve performance and design.

Analysis

This 9mm polymer-framed handgun offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a reliable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip provides a comfortable fit for a wide range of hand sizes, with interchangeable backstraps enhancing adaptability. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions smoothly even under demanding conditions with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Availability of aftermarket parts and accessories might also be limited compared to more ubiquitous platforms. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, though some may find it slightly heavy for rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper grip and stance.

Awesome Striker-fired semiautomatic
By Verbs on 16 Oct 2024
This was my first purchase as new gun owner (shooter back in the younger days, in the country but, as an adult in the big city, didn't really see the need for one...until 2020 when the election was stolen and the "government" started trying to kill off conservatives with a vaccine. It says it has "good" concealment. Mine seems WAY too big for proper concealment, so it sits in a drawer by our front door for home protection. But, it's a shooter's gun. It is great in the hand and accurate as heck. I don't love the grip safety, but it's not terrible. I used it to qualify for the state Concealed Carry permit. Awesome Striker-fired semiautomatic
