About the Gun

The Croatian made XD pistol represents Springfield Armory's entry into the polymer-frame striker-fired pistol market. Although Springfield Armory introduced the XD in 2002, an earlier incarnation of the design known as the HS2000 had been independently imported into the US three years before. The XD model introduced many manufacturing improvements that have given the pistol a reputation for reliability and accuracy. While often compared to the GLock, the XD has a distinctly different trigger action that includes a unique 1911-style grip safety, and both a cocked status indicator and a loaded chamber indicator.

Production

This firearm was produced between 2002 and 2006. It was part of a specialized line during that period, reflecting a design tailored for specific performance enhancements before being discontinued.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a balance of performance and practicality. Its accuracy is noteworthy, aided by a well-designed barrel and porting that helps manage muzzle rise, making follow-up shots more precise. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended range sessions. Reliability is consistent, functioning well under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, as the ported design requires regular cleaning to prevent buildup that could affect performance. Parts availability may also pose a challenge for some users, as specialized components are not always readily accessible. The trigger pull is smooth, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which suits most shooters, while the felt recoil is noticeably reduced due to the porting, enhancing overall control.
