About the Gun

The Croatian made XD pistol represents Springfield Armory's entry into the polymer-frame striker-fired pistol market. Although Springfield Armory introduced the XD in 2002, an earlier incarnation of the design known as the HS2000 had been independently imported into the US three years before. The XD model introduced many manufacturing improvements that have given the pistol a reputation for reliability and accuracy. While often compared to the GLock, the XD has a distinctly different trigger action that includes a unique 1911-style grip safety, and both a cocked status indicator and a loaded chamber indicator.

Production

Analysis

This polymer-framed pistol in 357 SIG offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomic grip provides a secure hold, accommodating various hand sizes with interchangeable backstraps, enhancing comfort during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong suit, with the firearm cycling smoothly under diverse conditions, even with high-pressure rounds. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of disassembly for thorough cleaning. Parts availability may also pose challenges, as aftermarket support is not as widespread as for more common calibers. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6 pounds, though some may find it slightly heavy for rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is manageable but sharp, typical of the potent 357 SIG cartridge, requiring acclimation for newer shooters.
